Refrigerator System Parts and Components
The basic principle of refrigeration is simple: a colder liquid is continuously passed around an object to be cooled. When a liquid evaporates, it absorbs heat. Conversely, when a liquid condenses, it releases heat. Inside an actual refrigerator, we have something called a refrigeration cycle, and it goes like this:
- Low-pressure and low-temperature vapor refrigerant comes into the compressor to come out of it as a high-temperature, high-pressure vapor refrigerant
- As the refrigerant enters the condenser coil, it starts rejecting heat, which leads to it turning into a saturated state in the middle of the condenser coil
- After that, the refrigerant finally turns into a liquid until it comes out of the condenser coil
- The refrigerant then goes into the filter dryer, which is there to absorb any moisture in the system
- The next step is the metering device, which allows for a pressure change (a high-pressure, high-temperature liquid is coming into a metering device to turn it into low-pressure, which automatically brings down the temperature as well)
- Then, this 80% liquid and 20% flash gas mix get to the middle of the evaporator coil. The refrigerant is now absorbing heat turning into a saturated state
- Right after that, the refrigerant turns into a low-pressure, low-temperature vapor. It is still absorbing heat until comes out of the evaporator coil
- Finally, as the refrigerant is leaving the evaporator coil, the temperature increases turning it into a low-pressure, low-temperature vapor as it comes up to the service valve. After that, it just enters back into the compressor and the cycle start all over again
At any of these stages a problem can occur. If you need a replacement part, you now know where to find it.
